Salter Mechanical Baby Hanging Scale

The Salter Mechanical Baby Hanging Scale (specifically the Model 235-6S) is a global standard for field healthcare. Originally designed over 250 years ago, this mechanical spring scale is widely used by world aid agencies (like UNICEF and the Red Cross) due to its extreme durability, lack of reliance on batteries, and ease of transport.

Product Description

The 235-6S is a compact, robust, and corrosion-resistant suspended scale. It is designed to deliver "well over one million weighments" in its lifetime. Because it is mechanical, it is unaffected by humidity or lack of electricity, making it ideal for remote nutrition surveys, agricultural use, and industrial weighing.

Core Features

  • Mechanical Reliability: Uses a precision-machined rack and pinion with low-friction acetal bearings for maximum sensitivity without the need for power.
  • Safety Housing: Features a tough ABS plastic case with a shatterproof polycarbonate dial cover, ensuring the needle and internal springs are protected from rough handling.
  • Easy Readability: Large, high-contrast white dial background with black markings makes it readable in low-light conditions.
  • Tare Function: The adjustment screw on top allows you to "zero out" the weight of the weighing trousers or a sling before placing the child inside.
  • Environmental Resistance: Built with splash-proof mechanics and UV-resistant plastic, it operates reliably between 0°C and 45°C.

Usage Guidelines

  1. Suspension: Hang the scale by the top hook from a stable, stationary point (like a tripod or a ceiling beam).
  2. Zeroing: Attach the empty weighing trousers/sling to the bottom hook and turn the top screw until the dial reads exactly 0.
  3. Weighing: Place the child into the trousers or sling. The needle will move clockwise; allow a few seconds for it to stabilize before taking the reading.
  4. Cleaning: The ABS body and galvanized steel hooks can be easily disinfected with a standard alcohol-based wipe or soap and water.
